Marshall JCM800 (2204) Build, Pt.1
Part 1 of my JCM800 (2204) Build
Yes, the insanity starts over: I’m building a Marshall JCM800 (2204) clone. The chassis, faceplates and some miscellaneous parts arrived from Nik Azam of Ceriatone Friday afternoon.
Nik makes a great chassis; the holes are all laser punched, the corners welded and ground smooth on the outside. Very nice. I also like the fact that Nik will laser punch additional holes for customers. I asked him to add an additional cap can hole near the choke mounting holes. This way, I can put the third filter cap on the outside of the chassis to make it a little more authentic, and streamline the filter capacitor wiring. You can see the new hole on the top of the chassis, toward the right. How cool is that?
The faceplates are nice, too. I think these are laser punched plexi and they line up perfectly with the chassis. My only complaint with the plexi faceplate is the “JCM800 Lead Series” label, though I’m not sure what I would have put instead. I dropped the chassis off at the local powder coater this morning to have it coated gloss black. It should be done in a couple of days and I can start mounting the tube sockets and other parts I have on hand. Most of the components (transformers, choke, small parts, etc) will need to be ordered from various sources.
Here are a few of the other parts I purchased from Nik: Belden sockets, Cliff jacks, input voltage selector, impedance selector and fuse holders. I also purchased an unpopulated turret board which I will use as a basic template to build my own—out of black G10 Garolite to match the chassis.
