New York Vintage Guitar Show…
I’ve been getting into the guitar the past couple of weeks since buying the Weddington, so I thought I’d take a drive up to Kingston and check out the New York Vintage Guitar Show & Swap meet. What an absolute waste of time! The show was much smaller than I expected—I think it was in a room not that was 50’ x 50’ at the most—but it was the lack of interesting guitars and amps that was truly disappointing. Sure, there were a couple (literally two) luthiers at the show, and a couple of nice vintage guitars, but mostly it was beat-up old Epiphones. A lot of Epiphones. I don’t have anything against them, but I can see them—and many more great used guitars—at any number of shops within 30 miles of my home. And the shops don’t charge admission. Seriously, $7.00 to go into a show that I walked through in 15 or 20 minutes? Ouch! Next time I’m jonesing to look at gear, I spend a day driving to the local shops or maybe go down to NYC.
Then again, I’ve heard a lot of good things about the NY Amp show (coming in May) and the various “Tone Fests” so those might be better alternatives.
