Novacron.com gets a new look for 2007

As you may have noticed if you visited before, the site looks a little different now.  That’s right—I just finished the bulk of work necessary to give Novacron.com a fresh, new look and feel.  Okay, maybe “fresh, new look” is overstating things a bit, but I think the new site is an improvement.

The new template is based on “Shades of Gray” by a designer called Arcsin.  Good stuff.  I made a few minor changes to the basic template so it would better suit my needs but overall, it’s “off the rack.”  My goals with the redesign was to make the site cleaner and easier to read, and a bit more modern in appearance.  I also wanted to make it more accessible to search engines, which is critical.  I think the new template is a step in the right direction on all counts.

There’s still work to be done, of course.  The first order of business is to put some kind of graphic, probably a picture of the DC30, behind the header.  Some CSS issues need to be resolved and I need to decide where I want to put the category and “most recent articles” lists—on the sidebar, on at the bottom of the page.  At the bottom would open up a lot of room for the main content, though it’s a bit non-traditional and would require a bit more scrolling.  I will probably do a bit of work to clean up the side presentation, and make it a bit more compact, to see if that appeals to me before making any drastic changes.
