Two more Yamaha Weddingtons on eBay
Auctions for two Yamaha Weddingtons—a Custom and a Classic—sold on eBay this week.
First up, the Classic sold using “buy it now” for $800. The seller described the guitar as a “solid 8.5 to 9” guitar and said it was played but not abused. I don’t care much for cherry burst myself—okay, I hate them—but the guitar does look clean from the pictures. Compared to my Custom, the maple top is somewhat plain, the headstock isn’t bound and the fingerboard is rosewood rather than ebony. A nice guitar, but not for me.
The second was a cherry red Custom. According to the seller, the guitar “has definately been played” and the finish shows signs of use—little dings, dents and small scratches in different places. The quilt top wasn’t quite nice as the one that sold back in September $750, but it was similar. I watched this auction closely for the first few days, as the price hovered around $450 wondering how high it would go. The winning bid was $905.01. Wow.
I don’t want a second Weddington right now. That’s what I keep telling myself, at least. I do think refinishing a Custom as a goldtop would be quite a worthwhile endeavor. Maybe if I can find one that’s a bit more played… and a bit less money.
